About Our Staff and Instructors

 

Brian Breton, Gartley Street Program Educational Technician & Adult Education Technology Instructor

Brian is the computer applications instructor at Lisbon Adult & Community Education. Brian earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Franklin Pierce University. He earned his master's degree in business education from the University of Southern New Hampshire. Brian has worked with the Lisbon Adult & Community Education for three years. He came to the department from the Gartley Street Alternative Education program of Lisbon High School where he started in 2010. Brian is the most awesome instructor and person you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. You will be in awe. (*editor's note: Brian wrote his own biography! (c:)

Dana Dudley, Adult Education Mathematics Instructor

Dana grew up in central Illinois and landed in Lisbon Falls, ME through a military transfer. She was looking for a small town community to raise and educate her young children. Through the process of many life changes she ended up substitute teaching and then pursuing a teaching certification. Dana has worked as an education technician and teacher for MSAD75 since 2004. She has taught mathematics for the Lisbon Adult Education Department since 2010. She believes learning is a lifelong process thus making adult education a place she truly enjoys. She strives to bring a smile of accomplishment and confidence to students of all ages.

 

Sara Flowers, Adult Education Director/HiSET™ Chief Examiner

Having grown up in Durham, Sara is a product of Union #30 education. She started in education as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher and taught in Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Finland. She came to LACE in 2006 as the ESL teacher and stayed on as the High School Diploma English-Language Arts instructor until 2008 when she became Director. Sara feels that learning should be experiential, relevant and accessible. She believes that Adult Education is as much about social justice as it is about getting jobs and getting ready for college. Sara is also the Humanities Faculty for the Maine College of Health Professions and is always ready to help students plan their next steps.  

 

Sue Gerlek, High School Equivalency (HiSET™) Examiner

Sue grew up in Lisbon, graduating from LHS in 1968 (two years after Stephen King). After earning a BA at Bates and an MA at the University of Virginia, she returned to her hometown. She taught at Sugg Middle School from its opening in 1973 until her retirement in 2007. She has been involved with the Adult Education for over 30 years, serving as a tutor then an examiner for the high school equivalency program. She also enjoys her “retirement gig” at L.L.Bean, in the flagship store in Freeport.  

 

Rick Green, Lisbon School Department Superintendent

Mr. Green was born and raised in Aroostook County and graduated from Presque Isle High school in 1988. Mr. Green started his career in education teaching Technology Education (Computers). In 2002, Mr. Green came to Lisbon and worked for two years as the Assistant Principal and then the next five years as Principal at the Philip W. Sugg Middle School. In July, 2009, Mr. Green was hired as the Superintendent of Schools and has proudly served and represented the students and community of Lisbon over the last five years. Mr. Green would like to continue to work closely with the community to provide the best instructional program for all students.  

 

 

Eric Hall, Gartley Street Program Administrator

Anita Marenius, Adult Basic Education Instructor

Anita has supported students enrolled in the GED / HiSET programs for over 10 years at Lisbon Adult & Community Education (LACE). Her background is in education with a Bachelor of Science degree within that discipline. She enjoys working with adult learners as they develop and achieve their educational goals. Anita is also a long serving member of the Lisbon Library staff and in that role, assists the community and individuals in selecting learning resources.

 

Jennifer Robitaille, Academic Coordinator

Joni Sloan, High School Equivalency (HiSET™) Examiner

Joni grew up in Lisbon and attended Lisbon schools. She graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in elementary education. Joni has worked as an Educational Technician in Special Education in Lisbon and, for the past seventeen years, in Topsham. Education has always been important to Joni and she belives that everyone can be a successful learner.
